Nature imposes itself everywhere around my new studio in Provence. That is where I find my favorite inspiration: the flowers, trees, birds, and insects.

In this new collection of my work, I used two techniques. The first one involves “naïve” representation of trees on large canvases with birds using a type of plastering of the canvas with acrylic before putting on a final touch of oil. You might say heavy and then thin.

The second technique involves initially the same technique outlined above, but then the representation of insects required me to use varnish in several layers, but applying pure pigments in between each layer. These special pure pigments come from a small village in the Lubéron called Rousillon. This village is well known for its natural earth tones. This extra pigment work adds an abstract note to the paintings.

This collection, which is just in its beginning stages, is illustrative of my constant research into new materials and treatments on the canvases that allow me to explore a subject matter that is always different and one that continues to surprise me.
